Nuclear Safety Manager for the ITER Nuclear Project (France)
Project:
ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor), in Cadarache (France)
Job Description:
General:
Definition of methodologies and processes of the organization,
Collaboration and answering questions about meeting requirements of the contract when necessary,
Subcontractors-related management:
Project audits:
- Attending client audits
- Supervising the closing of actions
- Auditing of Subcontractors
Collaborating on defining and managing the project quality system:
- Defining and periodic updating of the nuclear safety plan and all its associated procedures,
- Coordinating with the other disciplines to convey the need to comply with the system and create a culture (document, follow the procedures, report any incidents, participate actively in the quality system, etc.),
- Issuing associated documentation in the internal system.
Preparation of the weekly progress report:
- Integrating the information from all the quality team members
- Drafting emails and PowerPoint presentations
- Attending the monthly meeting and presenting the report
- Answering questions and resolving comments
Following up on lessons learned and collaborating on their acquisition:
- Evaluating and following up on actions for improvement based on lessons learned
- Coordinating internally to record them on the Excel spreadsheet of lessons learned
- Communicating to reach agreements on the matter
Education:
Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
Required Experience:
- At least five years of experience as Nuclear Safety Manager,
- Experience in piping construction project will be valued,
- Experience in maintaining certifications will be valued,
- Experience in defining, organising and supervising teams,
- Experience managing diverse teams in multinational environment meeting
challenging milestones and ensuring adherence to budget constraints.
Required Technical Skills:
- Proven experience in nuclear EPC projects, covering engineering, procurement,
construction, and commissioning, - Understanding of safety integration throughout the project lifecycle, from design to operation,
- Experience in nuclear safety case development and justification of design choices.
- Knowledge of Hazard & Operability Studies (HAZOP, HAZID) and Failure Mode Analysis (FMEA, FMECA),
- Familiarity with nuclear-grade quality standards (ISO 19443, ASME III, RCC-M, RCC-E),
- Experience in Safety-Class equipment qualification and certification.
- Understanding of fire protection (FP), seismic, flooding, and other external event assessments,
- Ability to conduct safety impact assessments during design modifications,
- Experience in commissioning and validation of nuclear safety functions,
- Knowledge of Ageing Management and Long-Term Operation (LTO) strategies.
Compliance & Risk Management:
- Experience with nuclear safety audits, regulatory inspections, and compliance reporting,
- Familiarity with international nuclear safety standards (IAEA, WENRA, EUR, NRC, etc.),
- Ability to develop and manage Nuclear Safety Management Systems (NSMS),
- Experience in nuclear safety culture implementation and assessment,
- Knowledge of Human Factors Engineering (HFE) and Human Reliability Analysis (HRA).
Soft Skills:
- Team Leadership & Communication: Strong leadership skills, with the ability to lead
technical teams and communicate quality results clearly to stakeholders. - Reporting: Experience in preparing detailed quality audit reports and presenting findings to senior management
- Continuous Improvement: identify opportunities for productivity enhancement, increase of reliability and redaction of cost of poor quality through process engineering and analysis of the root causes of observed non-conformities.
Languages:
Profesional level of English (at least B2).
Good level of Spanish (at least B1)
Location:
Cadarache, France.
Geographic flexibility:
Some travel to the Madrid HQ and according to the project requirements.
